Here at Jump into Parenting, we realise the importance of incorporating singing into your child's development.
From very early in their life, children will start to identify rhythm and begin to move to the beats of music.
Music offers cognitive benefits that support children’s early development. Children will develop their music skills by memorising the rhythms and tones of the songs and rhymes we sing to them, so by exposing our children to different types of music we are helping to create different pathways between the cells in their brains. We are also exposing our children to a whole bank of new words thus building on their ever growing vocabulary.
Singing to your child everyday is an excellent way to help them learn and identify sound and patterns. They do this through repetition and the more they hear the songs they will begin to anticipate what comes next in the song. As your child is mastering these skills they are beginning to build the base for literacy and numeracy.
Singing to your child can support many different emotions. When upset we can sing quiet calming songs to pacify our child and when tired we can sing lullabies. We use singing to express love and joy, and to engage and interact.
Children naturally enjoy music and will begin reacting to music at an early age. As children get older, their love of music will bring one of the most noticeable benefits when partaking in music and movement: the release of energy.
"A child who sings is a happy child."
